The Gender Equality Tour de France came to the Council of Europe

As part of the Gender Equality Tour de France, the French Minister for European Affairs, Nathalie Loiseau, and the State Secretary with responsibility for gender equality, Marlène Schiappa, discussed equality between men and women with 300 students and young people following vocational training on Wednesday 13 December at the Council of Europe (Strasbourg).

The discussions focussed on the fight against gender stereotypes and sexism in education, the employment world, the media, on the internet and in social networks.

The participants heard statements and proposals to improve gender equality and to show how France is drawing on and applies the Council of Europe’s standards in this field.

Council of Europe speakers included the Deputy Secretary General, Gabriella Battaini-Dragoni, and the Commissioner for Human Rights, Nils Muižnieks.

Elected representatives and representatives of associations also took part.

The Council of Europe will launch a new gender equality strategy in May 2018.
