Magistrates Unify Electoral Dispute Resolution Practice within of Parliamentary Election

Around 30 judges and prosecutors from across the Republic of Moldova took part in a full-day training session aimed at strengthening judicial response to election-related disputes. The event was organised by the National Institute of Justice, the Council of Europe Office in Chisinau, and the Central Electoral Commission, as part of ongoing efforts to uphold the integrity and legality of the electoral process.

Through interactive sessions and expert-led discussions, participants deepened their understanding of the legal mechanisms available for resolving electoral disputes, including procedural requirements, jurisdictional considerations, and evidentiary standards. Emphasis was placed on concrete electoral cases, promoting coherent judicial practice aligned with international norms and reinforcing the role of courts in safeguarding democratic principles.

Oliver KASK, substitute member of the Venice commission in respect of Estonia, presented the Venice Commission’s interpretative Declaration of the Code of good practice in electoral matters as concerns digital technologies and artificial intelligence, as well as grounds of the cancellation of election results by constitutional courts.

The event was organised by the Council of Europe Office in Chisinau in partnership with the National Institute of Justice and Central Electoral Commission within the framework of the Project “Improving electoral practice in the Republic of Moldova (IEPRM) 2025–2028”, part of the Council of Europe Action Plan for the Republic of Moldova 2025–2028.
