In cooperation with the Bulgarian Commission for Illegal Asset Forfeiture (CIAF) and the European Economic Area (EEA) and Norway Grants, the Council of Europe organised an international workshop titled “International and regional cooperation in asset recovery cases” in Sofia, Bulgaria on 19 September 2016.

 The main topics covered included: the effectiveness of MLA requests as a tool in the asset recovery process, the role and functioning of global and regional networks for international cooperation in the area, and a presentation on good practices of financial intelligence and evidence exchange using case examples. 

The event primarily brought together Bulgarian representatives of the Commission for Illegal Asset Forfeiture, the FIU, State Agency for National Security, Prosecution Services, Ministry of Interior and similar organisational bodies. The experts in attendance included senior officers with vast prosecution experience as well as a speaker from Interpol, adding a diverse and experienced value to the workshop.
