Back Workshop on identification of barriers to effective asset recovery in Bulgaria (Sofia, Bulgaria, 10 December 2014)

The first activity of the Project took place on 10 December 2014 in the form of a brainstorming workshop aimed at identifying barriers to effective asset recovery in Bulgaria. Bulgarian authorities were represented by a wide range of agencies, including the Commission for Illegal Assets Forfeture, the Ministry of Interior and Police, Ministry of Justice, State Agency for National Security, Supreme Court, General Prosecutor’s Office, the Financial Intelligence Unit. The Council of Europe provided an overview of international standards on asset recovery as well as international good practices in the field. A productive discussion among all agencies involved in the asset recovery system in Bulgaria took place during the activity, allowing to identify several key barriers to effective asset recovery, and paving the way for the second activity of the Project – and in-depth study of the Bulgarian AR regime, which will be carried out in January-March 2015.”
