The Council of Europe carried out a scoping mission to assess the needs of Tajik authorities in the area of anti-corruption, anti-money laundering/combating the financing of terrorism, as well as private sector compliance and protection of entrepreneurs’ rights. The Council of Europe delegation met with representatives of the National Bank and its Financial Monitoring Department, Ministry of Interior, General Prosecutors Office, State Committee on National Security, Anti-Corruption Agency, Association of Entrepreneurs and Chamber of Commerce. All counterparts expressed significant interest in cooperating with the Council of Europe, especially in light of numerous recommendations from a recent OECD ACN assessment and the upcoming evaluation of the Eurasian group.

This activity was organised in the framework of the project “Promoting Transparency and Action against Economic Crime”, part of the Central Asia Rule of Law Programme 2020-2023, joint initiative co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe. The project is aimed at strengthening capacities to fight and prevent economic crime in five Central Asian countries, including Tajikistan.
