Working group meeting the National Strategy and Action Plan for Execution of the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights in Georgia

On 24 April 2023, a second working group meeting was held in Tbilisi for the elaboration of the National Strategy for the Execution of Judgments of the European Court of Human Rights (ECTHR) and corresponding Action Plan. The workshop which gathered all interlocutors, including the Ministry of Justice, Supreme Court of Georgia, General Prosecutor’s Office, Special Investigative Service, Parliament, Public Defender’s Office and Young Lawyers Association, aimed at identifying the challenges of domestic execution framework and procedures.

In addition, the participants of the meeting had an opportunity to exchange views on the domestic execution procedures with a representative of the Department for Execution of ECtHR Judgments of the Council of Europe.

The event was organised in the framework of the Council of Europe Project “Enhancing Implementation of Human Rights Practices and Education in Georgia”.

The Project “Strengthening Implementation of Human Rights Practices and Education in Georgia” aims to support the parliament of Georgia in its efforts to effectively exercise its oversight function with regards of execution of judgments of the European Court of Human Rights against Georgia. The Project supports establishing a large and competent pool of national trainers that will ensure sustainability of National Training Institutions and serve as a ground for continuous professional development of legal professionals in European human rights standards. The Project also works with partner universities and law schools to better include human rights studies in their respective curricula.
