News – Study Visit of the Georgian Delegation to the CoE

A study visit of the delegation from Georgia to the Council of Europe was held on 8-10 March 2023 within the framework of the Project “Enhancing implementation of Human Rights Practices and Education in Georgia”. Study visit aimed at enhancing the dialogue between the Council of Europe and the national stakeholders concerning the execution of the European Court of Human Rights judgments.

The delegation was composed of representatives from the Ministry of Justice, the General Prosecutor’s Office, and the Parliament of Georgia.

During the visit, the participants had an opportunity to attend the 1459DH meeting of the Ministers’ Deputies, which held its quarterly meeting to oversee the execution of the European Court of Human Rights judgments. Cases proposed for the detailed examination concerned Turkey and Azerbaijan.

During the visit, the participants had an opportunity to listen to presentations delivered by the representatives of the Department for Execution of Judgments and discuss with them issues pertinent to the execution process, best practices for re-opening of investigations and judicial proceedings. The delegation was also given presentations on drafting action plans/reports and the HUDOC-EXEC database.

The agenda of the visit also included a meeting with the judge of the European Court of Human Rights in respect of Georgia, and lawyers from the Registry.
