The Priorat region is located in southern Catalonia, covers an area of 498.60 km², has a population of 9,390 inhabitants, and a low population density (18.83 inhabitants/km²).

The Priorat-Montsant-Siurana Landscape Management System: A Resilient Mediterranean Mosaic is an integrated and strategic planning and management tool that, following the principles of the Landscape Convention of the Council of Europe, the Law 8/2005 on the protection, management, and planning of the landscape of Catalonia, and in compliance with the National Cultural Landscape Plan, has placed the landscape at the heart of the development of the Priorat region.

The Management System integrates, promotes, and develops all the measures and actions agreed upon in the region through a participatory, open, cross-cutting, and deliberative process. This process involves public and private institutions, economic and social sectors, and community organizations to preserve and enhance the values of the agroforestry landscape, curb depopulation in the region, and play a key role in the fight against climate change and the maintenance of biodiversity. The governing body for its Landscape Management System is the Priorat Landscape and Sustainability Commission.
