Programme on Policing in Diverse Society has been launched

In 2021 the Council of Europe Office in Georgia assisted the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to pilot a programme on policing in diverse society. This activity aimed to introduce the manual on religious and ethnic diversity in Georgia and integrate it into the study curriculum of the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The process included the development of the programme together with Council of Europe experts, carrying out the training of trainers of the Police Academy instructors and organising an information meeting with the middle level managers on religious and ethnic diversity in Georgia. Training of trainers and information meeting took place on 18-19 October 2021 and on 20-21 November 2021 respectively.

As a result of this activity, the Ministry of Internal Affairs staff is more aware of the history and cultural diversity of various ethnic and religious communities in Georgia, as well as local and international commitments for the integration of minorities in Georgian society.

This activity is supported by the Council of Europe co-operation Project “Fight against Discrimination, Hate Crimes and Hate Speech in Georgia”. The project is implemented under the Council of Europe’s Action Plan for Georgia 2020-2023 with the support of the Danish Neighbourhood Programme in Georgia (DANEP).
