Training on non-discrimination and equality standards for local level

Municipal anti-discrimination officers, legal advisors from the Ombudsperson regional offices and the officials from Office for Good Governance – Prime Ministers Office, were trained on non-discrimination and equality standards on 22 and 23 of May in Prizren.

Equality before the law and (non)discrimination in judicial practice in line with the practice of the European Court of Human Rights and the practice of the Constitutional Court; Local legal framework regarding the protection from discrimination; The role of the Ombudsperson Institution; and Discrimination at the municipal level – examples from EctHR jurisprudence: these were the main topics discussed during the training.

As a result of the two-days session, 20 participants from the municipalities of Prizren, Kaçanik/Kačanik, Hani i Elezit/Elez Han, Malisheva/Malisevo, Vitia/Vitina, Gjilan/Gnjilane, Dardana/Kosovska Kamenica, Dragash/Dragaš, Shtime/Štimlje, representatives from the Office for Good Governance and Ombudsperson’s legal advisors increased their knowledge of international human rights standards, including anti-discrimination principles and respect for tolerance, diversity, and inclusion.


 

This training was conducted in cooperation with Office for Good Governance, Human Rights, Equal opportunities and Anti-Discrimination and in the framework of the project “Promoting human rights and non-discrimination principles at the local level”, implemented by Council of Europe office in Pristina through financial support of the United Nations Mission in Kosovo* (UNMIK).
