The Council of Europe, in co-operation with the Supreme Court of Cassation and the Judicial Academy of the Republic of Serbia is organizing on 29 August 2017 a one-day conference to review and discuss contentious legal issues and court practice on the implementation of the Law on the Right to a Trial Within Reasonable Time. The Law passed in 2016 substantively changed the system of protection of the right guaranteed under Article 6 of the European Convention on Human Rights and defined the new set of legal remedies in case of violation of the reasonable time standard.
The conference will gather about 160 court presidents, judges and court clerks, as well as representatives of international organisations.
This activity will take place in Belgrade, Serbia, and is organised within the framework of the Council of Europe Action “Supporting Effective Remedies and Mutual Legal Assistance” which is being implemented under the joint programme between the Council of Europe and the European Union entitled “Horizontal Facility for Western Balkans and Turkey”.
