Forty Ukrainian judges, lawyers and public servants representing relevant ministries have begun a tutored course on Business and Human Rights under the Council of Europe’s HELP Programme. The second launch of the course was held in Lviv on 15 September.

The course explores key aspects of human rights protection in the business environment, including the State’s duty to protect human rights, the responsibility of businesses to respect human rights, access to effective remedies and recent developments in the European Union regulatory framework. It aims to strengthen legal professionals’ ability to apply relevant Council of Europe, EU and national standards in cases involving business-related human rights issues.

This initiative is organised jointly by the Council of Europe projects “HELP (Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals) for Ukraine, including during wartime – Phase II” and “Advancing Ukraine’s Recovery through Responsible Investment”, together with the National School of Judges of Ukraine.

Both projects are implemented within the framework of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine “Resilience, Recovery and Reconstruction” 2023–2026.
