Judicial Academy’s initial training beneficiaries strengthen skills to apply the European Convention on Human Rights

The joint European Union and Council of Europe action Strengthening human rights protection in Serbia and the Judicial Academy of the Republic of Serbia (JA), conducted a series of practical trainings from October until December on various Articles of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) for JA’s initial training beneficiaries.

These training built upon the knowledge participants gained from the HELP course “Introduction to the European Court of Human Rights” which was adapted for Serbian legal professionals by the action and is compulsory part of the JA’ initial training beneficiaries curriculum. The sessions aimed to provide participants with hands-on skills and tools to effectively apply the ECHR in their professional roles. The Supreme Court advisor who had spent six months at the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) with the action’s support delivered insights into the relevant case-law of the ECtHR and facilitated interactive case studies that enhanced participants’ understanding of practical application of ECHR standards.

The trainings are a part of the ongoing efforts of the action "Strengthening human rights protection in Serbia" to provide assistance to the state institutions in implementing European Convention on Human Rights and the case-law of the European Court of Human Rights at the domestic level through enhancing capacities of Serbian legal professionals.

The action is a part of the joint European Union and Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye”, implemented by the Council of Europe
