The first lex specialis to tackle academic integrity in Europe will be developed in Montenegro

Last 10 November, a Council of Europe’s expert met with higher education specialists from the Ministry of Education to discuss the development of the Law on Academic Integrity. This will be a unique piece of legislation that deals only with academic integrity, the first of its kind in Europe. In addition, the expert met with the head of the Ethical Commission at the University of Montenegro.

Most of the discussions were related to the issues that need to be addressed by the new law such as the various forms of academic misconduct, temporal scope of the law, plagiarism issues, codes of ethic etc. The expert will prepare a report that will provide recommendations for the development of the law.

The Action “Strengthen Integrity and Combat Corruption in Higher Education” will support the country’s efforts to put in place an effective framework of academic integrity that complies with relevant international standards.
