As part of its collaboration with the Ministry of Immigration, Francisation and Integration (MIFI), the city of Sherbrooke has introduced the "Sherbrooke, welcoming community [French only]" programme. The goal of this programme is to make Sherbrooke an even more welcoming and inclusive community by supporting projects and initiatives of local non-profit organisations. The programme provides financial support of up to $20,000 per project and has the following general objectives:
- Building an even more welcoming and inclusive community for people with immigrant background and cultural communities.
- The sustainable settlement of immigrants in the community.
- The full participation of immigrants and cultural communities in civic life and collective enrichment.
- Openness to diversity and intercultural exchanges.
- Living together.
In 2021, seven projects aimed at creating favourable environments and conditions conducive to the inclusion and civic participation of immigrants, particularly in the area of leisure, are supported.
