New publication available in Azerbaijani on Article 12 of the Istanbul Convention

The Council of Europe’s Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence, also known as the Istanbul Convention, is the most comprehensive international legal standard to end violence against women and domestic violence. It starts from the point that violence against women must not be tolerated and seeks to guarantee the human dignity and the human rights of women.

A new publication has been made available in Azerbaijani on what the general obligations are for members states who join the Istanbul Convention (Article 12). From challenging gender stereotypes, to empowering women, through involving men and boys and ensuring that disadvantaged groups are not left behind, this publication provides practical examples on how states can prevent violence against women and domestic violence.

This translation was done under the joint action ‘Raising awareness of the Istanbul Convention and other gender equality standards in Azerbaijan’ currently implemented within the Programme for Good Governance II (PGGII), a European Union and Council of Europe joint programme in the Eastern Partnership countries. Among other objectives, the joint action seeks to support the Azerbaijani authorities to sign the Istanbul Convention.
