The School of Magistrates of Albania enlarges their pool of certified local trainers in freedom of expression and the media

Nine judges and prosecutors were trained in an intensive 4-day Training of Trainers activity on Article 10 of the European Convention of Human Rights (ECHR), the jurisprudence of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), and Council of Europe standards on freedom of expression and the media. National legal framework and jurisprudence were used to examine the application of these standards by national courts. The objective of the training was to enlarge the pool of certified local trainers of the School of Magistrates who would then train their peers through a system of cascade training.

The training was organised by the School of Magistrates with the support of the Freedom of Expression and Freedom of the Media in Albania (JUFREX), a joint project of Council of Europe and European Union.

The participating judges and prosecutors were trained through an interactive training methodology prepared under the Action, including group work case analysis, discussions and presentations. They received the trainer Handbook in Albanian language and other resource publications developed by the Action.

The joint project of European Union and Council of Europe "Freedom of Expression and Freedom of Media in Albania (JUFREX)” is part of the larger initiative of the European Union and Council of Europe's Horizontal Facility II.
