Trafficking in human beings is a phenomenon that is affecting millions of people worldwide. According to the 9th General report on GRETA’s activities that was published in 2020, there is a trend of an increasing number of identified victims of trafficking in the past years. More concretely, the increase of identified victims is by 44% between 2015 and 2018.[1] Children remain the most vulnerable group subjected to trafficking, especially children from Roma communities. In North Macedonia, children make the majority of the identified victims, as stated in the reports of the National Anti-Trafficking Commission, 4 out of 6 identified victims in 2019 and 6 out of 7 identified victims in 2020, all girls.[2]
In order to address the issue of trafficking in children, especially Roma children and girls, with the support of the EU and Council of Europe joint Horizontal Facility II programme, the Roma Women and Youth Association Luludi is implementing an important informational and awareness raising campaign to inform the public, with a particular accent on young people, on how to detect and report potential cases of child trafficking. The campaign will be based in a series of promotional videos which will be shared for the public with a clear message: “INFORM YOURSELF! EVERYONE CAN BE A VICTIM OF TRAFFICKING IN HUMAN BEINGS!”. The video materials were developed after the completion of 23 educational workshops organised with high school students from Skopje, Prilep, Tetovo, Kumanovo and Shtip. The students created these educational videos with the aim to share the gained knowledge from the workshops on the forms and ways of protection from human trafficking with their peers and wider public.
