Working meeting with court experts held in Montenegro do discuss accountability mechanisms and steps forwards

A working meeting with members of the Association of Court Experts of Montenegro was held on 9 July in Podgorica, to discuss the draft of the new Code of Ethics of Court Experts and present the Legal analysis concerning the reorganisation and accountability of the court experts profession.

With the support of the local Council of Europe consultants, the existing mechanisms concerning court experts' accountability were analysed and policy proposals drafted on how to further strengthen the accountability and ethics of members of this profession. The Code of Ethics was prepared based on contemporary deontology standards and best practices of several Council of Europe member states. The Legal analysis draws upon proposals and inputs provided by the Association’s members, as well as by the review of domestic regulations and comparative practices.

The documents that have been presented during this working meeting will be subject to further discussion with policy makers to prompt further reforms in this area.

The meeting was organised under the action "Accountability and professionalism of the judicial system in Montenegro" which is a part of the joint European Union/Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022”.
