Today, the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe received twenty-five participants of the Round Table organised by the Delegation of the European Union in Brazil, follow up of the project which was carried out in the context of EU - Brazil Dialogues entitled “Gender Equality in the Justice System/Federal Prosecution Service- EU-Brazil Regional Conferences of State Prosecutors”.

In a process of cross-sectoral exchange of good practices and sharing of experiences between both EU Member States and Brazil, two discussion groups were formed between judges and institutions and between non-governmental organisations and academics on equal opportunities, protection of human rights and the combat against gender-based violence. Those two sessions were presented by:

- Dr. Raquel Elias Ferreira Dodge, former President of the National Council of Public Prosecution (CNMP)
- Dr. Ivana Farina, member of the National Council of Justice (CNJ) and Prosecutor of the State of Goiás
- Dr. Cristina Nascimento de Melo, former Secretary General of CNMP.
- Dr. Maria Rosa Sabbatelli, Head of Section- FPI Regional Team Americas at EU Delegation to Brazil

José Rui Velez Caroço, Executive Director of the North-South Centre, stressed the importance of this event:

It is with the highest pleasure that the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe in Lisbon hosts a round table organised by the European Union Delegation in Brazil, in the framework of the European Union-Brazil dialogues, bringing together high representatives of the judiciary of Brazil and Portugal to informally discuss issues related to gender equality and the promotion of human rights with a focus on women, a subject of great relevance to the North-South Centre and the Council of Europe.
