With the support of the EU and Council of Europe, for the first time in Montenegro the legal clinic on human rights is launched for law students. The legal clinic brings together students from three law faculties, with the aim to broaden their practical knowledge and skills on the issues related to domestic violence, protection of women, children and other “gender minorities”, primarily LGBTIQ population.

During the launching session, the main principles of the European Convention on Human Rights and work of the Court in Strasbourg were presented by prominent lawyers and experts in the field including a former judge of the European Court of Human Rights, Lawyer in the Registry of the Court and professors of Constitutional law and human rights.

In the coming weeks, under the supervision of the mentors, students will be working with legal practitioners, judges, lawyers and civil society activists in order to gain practical skills on how to deal with “real cases”, particularly concerning the domestic and gender-based violence.

The action "Improved procedural safeguards in judicial proceedings in Montenegro" is part of the joint European Union/Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022”.
