On 22 April 2020, the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe decided to invite Kazakhstan and Tunisia, as the first non-member states, to accede to the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (Istanbul Convention). This step came following the expression of interest by the respective authorities, which were the first non-member states of the Council of Europe to do so.
