European Rendez-vous in Gardens
The Rendez-vous in the Gardens has been held every year on the first weekend of June since 2003 in France and since 2018 throughout Europe.
Its aim is to show the public the variety and richness of the heritage of parks and gardens, places where nature, culture, heritage, creation, arts, and science (biodiversity, sustainable development, plant genetic resources, etc.) come together.
All parks and gardens (historic or contemporary, public or private, urban or rural, classical or landscaped, vegetable gardens or orchards, collective or individual) are invited to open their doors, share and raise visitors' awareness of the protection, conservation, maintenance, restoration, creation of gardens, and the transmission of knowledge and know-how. The gardens open their doors, some on an exceptional basis, others by organizing events or activities related to the theme, and offer all kinds of activities: guided tours, workshops, concerts, shows, exhibitions, demonstrations of know-how, exchange fairs, etc.
Owners open their doors on the first weekend of June (Friday to schoolchildren and Saturday-Sunday to the general public). There are no restrictions on opening times; they can open for just one or two days out of the three days scheduled. The costs are covered by the organizers: free admission (especially for young people) is encouraged by the Ministry of Culture, but tickets may be sold.
The French Ministry of Culture provides free visuals (which are then translated into the national language(s)) and communication tools (posters in various formats). European gardens can register online at: https://openagenda.com/en/rdvj-2026-europe to contribute to the calendar and interactive map available on the event's dedicated website: www.rendezvousauxjardins.fr.
The three latest editions were devoted to the following topics:
2025 "Stone gardens - garden stones"
2024 "The five senses in the Garden"
