The HEREIN in Gardens Network held a special meeting on 13–14 April 2026 in Rome to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its creation. Hosted by the Parks and Gardens of Italy Association, the event brough together ministerial representatives, international experts and professionals from several European countries to exchange experiences and present national approaches related to the preservation and management of historic gardens.
As part of the programme, a dedicated thematic session on historical gardens’ management plans was organized where participating countries shared their respective practices, highlighting both successful initiatives and challenges faced in the protection and sustainable management of historical and heritage gardens. It provided an opportunity for exchanges on the importance of such management plans, the interest of defining common guidelines and methodologies, as well as on current needs and possible solutions for long-term preservation of Europe’s Garden heritage.
The regular meeting of the Network also highlighted the importance of European cooperation, dialogue and the sharing of experiences in strengthening the protection and sustainable management of historic gardens across Europe. It is illustrated by the growing success of a yearly event promoted since 2018 by the Network, the European Rendez-Vous in Gardens whose forthcoming edition is scheduled on the 5, 6 and 7 of June 2026, who wishes to raise awareness among the wider public to the variety and richness of the heritage of parks and gardens, places where nature, culture, heritage, creation, arts and science come together.
