HELP online course on violence against women and domestic violence launched for Law students in Kosovo*

Under the project "Reinforcing the fight against violence against women and domestic violence - phase II", the Council of Europe in co-operation with the Kosovo* Justice Academy launched the HELP course on Violence against Women and Domestic Violence for law students of the Faculty of Law-University of Pristina.

The launching conference was opened by Merita Limani, the local Project Manager, and welcoming remarks were provided by Frank Power, Head of Council of Europe Office in Pristina, Luljeta Plakolli-Kasumi, Vice-Dean, University of Pristina, Enver Fejzullahu, Director of Kosovo* Justice Academy. An introduction to the Council of Europe HELP Programme was provided by Valentina Boz, Council of Europe HELP Unit.

The participants also benefited from a presentation on the European standards in the field of violence against women and domestic violence by Anca Ciupa, Council of Europe consultant and member of WAVE Network, and presentation on local legislation and practice by Faton Ademi, Judge with Kosovo* Court of Appeals. 

The HELP course on Violence against Women and Domestic Violence aims to provide high-quality human rights training that will enable legal professionals to be more responsive to the needs of victims of violence against women and domestic violence while utilizing important standards of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention) and European Court of Human Rights case law. The course incorporates the local legal framework on domestic violence and is offered in local official languages.

A group of 28 law students of Master level in Law will take part in the HELP online course. They will attend seven online modules with the practical support and guidance of the national tutor, Arberita Kryeziu.

The HELP course on Violence against Women and Domestic Violence is currently available in the HELP online platform in Albanian, Armenian, Bosnian, English, Georgian, Macedonian, Montenegrin, Russian, Polish, Slovenian, Serbian and Ukrainian.
