The Council of Europe Drafting committee on migrant women (GEC-MIG) held its third meeting via videoconference on 2 and 3 March 2021. GEC-MIG, a subordinate body to the Gender Equality Commission (GEC), is tasked by the Committee of Ministers to draft a Recommendation on migrant and refugee women and girls. 22 member States, as well as two observer states and different bodies of the Council of Europe participated in the meeting.
GEC-MIG continued its drafting work, examining the Appendix of the draft Recommendation and the amendments received by participants. Topics such as non-discrimination, intersectional issues, access to justice migrant, refugee and asylum-seeking girls, detention and protection were discussed during the meeting.
GEC-MIG will hold two further meetings in 2021, before forwarding the text of a draft Recommendation on migrant, refugee and asylum-seeking women and girls to the Gender Equality Commission for its November 2021 plenary meeting.
