On 1–2 May, the Department for the Execution of Judgments of the European Court of Human Rights participated (online) in the XIII Lviv Annual International Forum on the Case-Law of the European Court of Human Rights. The event was co-organised by the Council of Europe cooperation activities and the OSCE Support Programme for Ukraine, in partnership with the Supreme Court, the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv and the National School of Judges of Ukraine.
The Department's intervention focused on strengthening the execution mechanism for the judgments of the European Court at the national level, from the perspective of strategic, methodological and comparative perspectives. It acknowledged Ukraine's continued engagement in the execution process even in difficult wartime conditions, while underlining that over 900 cases are pending under the supervision of the Committee of Ministers. The intervention further addressed the direct links between the execution of judgments of the European Court and Ukraine's EU accession process and drew on experience from other Council of Europe member states, with a view to moving from a reactive to a proactive preventive model.
