Key results discussed at Conference of the Project “Strengthening Integrity and Combatting Corruption in Higher Education in Armenia”

What was the impact of the Project “Strengthening Integrity and Combatting Corruption in Higher Education in Armenia”? What has been achieved? The project results were discussed during a conference that took place in Yerevan on 30 November. Organised in co-operation with the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia, the conference brought together educational professionals and decision makers of the higher education field from Armenia and other European countries to take a closer look on the results achieved, share experiences, discuss lessons learned and priority issues that should be addressed in the future.

The project “Strengthening Integrity and Combatting Corruption in Higher Education in Armenia” focused on two main objectives: i) implementing the micro projects promoting integrity and transparency in higher education by grantee organisations and ii) strengthening higher education institutions and their staff’s capacity to apply ethical standards and develop mechanisms for ensuring transparency and accountability.

Activities under the micro projects included initiatives to develop a public awareness strategy, communication campaigns to prevent corruption in higher education and policy recommendations to detect fraud in education.

A series of training events and awareness-raising activities were organised for the management and academic staff of the universities to roll-out the model Code of Ethics, to develop rules and procedures for preventing corruption and bribery and strengthening integrity, and to enhance accountability and transparency in curriculum development and student assessment.

A set of recommendations were presented to the Ministry of Education and Science on further endorsement of the Online Platform in governance of higher education institutions (HEIs), Codes of Ethics development, improvement of the human resources management, student assessment and curriculum development by HEIs.

The project is funded under the European Union and Council of Europe Partnership for Good Governance in the Eastern Partnership Countries for 2015-2017. The conference was held at the end of the third year of the project implementation.
