Over 40 representatives of the offices of Federal and Regional Business Ombudspersons’, inspectors of federal and regional administrations, representatives of executive and municipal authorities of the Smolensk region, as well as business representatives participated in the training on “Risk-based approach to inspections at regional and municipal levels in the Russian Federation”, which took place on 13-14 December 2018 in Smolensk, Russian Federation.

This was the first activity in a series of trainings aimed at enhancing capacities of relevant territorial federal, regional and municipal authorities to efficiently conduct inspections in line with the latest developments in the Russian legislative framework and applicable international standards and good practices.

The training was a combination of presentations, group work, practical exercises and case studies specifically developed for this purpose. It allowed the participants to obtain relevant knowledge about the latest developments in the field of inspections with a special focus on risk-based approach at national and international levels, to explore efficient measures to prevent corruption based on international and Russian practices, to exchange experience and practices, and to contribute to further improving the way inspections are organised and conducted.

The training materials developed specifically for this activity will be further updated based on the participants’ feedback and used for subsequent trainings to be conducted by the project in other pilot regions in 2019.
