A regional roundtable on protection of whistleblowers took place in Tirana, Albania on 12 and 13 April 2018. The event was organised by the EU/Council of Europe Joint Project against Economic Crime (PECK II) in support to the Ministry of Justice of Kosovo. 33 participants from Kosovo, Albania, Serbia, Croatia and Montenegro representing main institutions and civil society attended the event.

The main objective was to discuss regional approaches and good practices in relation to the legislation on protection of whistleblowers and implementation of the respective Council of Europe and international standards.

The presentations of representatives from Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro and Albania triggered great interest and discussions especially in relation to the mains issues such as the concept of whistleblower, authorities involved, confidentially, compensation, interim relief and burden of proof.

Experiences and lessons from this roundtable are meant to assist the Ministry of Justice on Kosovo and other relevant stakeholders in drafting the new Law on Protection of Whistleblowers.
