In early May 2008 following the request of the Montenegrin Ministry of Interior an expert review against European standards on Montenegrin Draft Law on Preventing Conflict of Interests in Exercising Public Functions was provided. This activity falls within the framework of the Council of Europe technical assistance programmes in South-East Europe for 2008. The adoption of the new legislation on conflict of interest is considered as one of the major steps in preventing corruption in Montenegro and is also seen as an action in view of implementing GRECO recommendations issued in October 2006.
