Ukraine amends legislation to stregthen child protection framework

On 18 February 2021, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted in the second reading Law no. 3055 “On amendments to some laws of Ukraine regarding the implementation of the Council of Europe Convention on Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse (the Lanzarote Convention)”. The Council of Europe has cooperated closely with the Committee of Law Enforcement of the Verkhovna Rada during the final review of the draft law and provided a thorough input to ensure that the provisions of the law be in line with the Lanzarote Convention. In the framework of the Council of Europe project “Combating violence against children in Ukraine” the adopted law will be reviewed to see to what extent the recommendations provided were finally integrated. The Council of Europe considers this whole process a step forward in strengthening the child protection framework in the country.

The analysis of the draft law is available for further details here.
