On your marks, set go ! The Council of Europe starts the preparation for its next Strategy for the Rights of the Child (2022-2027)

On 17 September 2020, the Council of Europe Steering Committee for the Rights of the Child (CDENF) will hold a plenary session online to proceed to a thematic exchange of views on the preparation of the Council of Europe Strategy for the Rights of the Child (2022-2027), with Ms Maria-Andriani Kostopoulou (Greece) in the chair.

The meeting is expected to gather over one hundred child rights experts from Council of Europe member and observer states, international and European intergovernmental organisations and non-governmental organisations.

The state of implementation of the current Council of Europe Strategy for the Rights of the Child (2016-2021) shall be looked at, including recent developments and implications for member states in the implementation of its priority areas and the work of the CDENF, notably in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

CDENF discussions shall also cover the preparation of the next Council of Europe’s Strategy for the Rights of the Child (2022-2027). In particular, the Committee will first draw lessons from previous Council of Europe strategies, look into the work programme and key issues for its design, decide on the roadmap for broad multi-stakeholder consultations, including children, and start discussions on priority areas to be included therein.
