The European Convention on Information on Foreign Law (ETS No. 62) establishes mechanisms of co-operation between states to facilitate the exchange of information on foreign law for use in domestic legal proceedings. It applies to requests relating to civil and commercial law and procedure, as well as to the organisation of the judiciary. Its Additional Protocol (ETS No. 97) broadens this co-operation and includes substantive and procedural criminal law, the organisation of the judiciary (including prosecution services), and the law governing the enforcement of criminal measures.
To explore these issues, a webinar on “Access to Information on Foreign Law” was organised by the European Committee on Legal Co-operation (CDCJ) on 4 December 2025.
This online event, which was attended by over 150 participants, offered legal practitioners, judges and institutions an opportunity to deepen their understanding of the Convention and its Protocol, exchange on the practical and legal challenges related to access to information on foreign law, and discover the dedicated webpage and new tools developed by the CDCJ to support and streamline this co-operation.
