CDCJ Bureau holds 125th meeting to prepare upcoming CDCJ plenary meeting

The Bureau of the European Committee on Legal Co-operation (CDCJ) held on 6-7 October 2026 its 125th meeting to prepare the 107th plenary meeting of the CDCJ (17-19 November 2026).

The Bureau examined possible future activities for the CDCJ following up on the outcome of the last plenary meeting and draft terms of reference (2028-2031) to be approved at its forthcoming plenary meeting and be submitted to the Committee of Ministers for consideration.

The Bureau examined a draft revised recommendation on the nationality of children and its explanatory memorandum as well as a checklist to be finalised at the upcoming plenary meeting. It considered a draft recommendation on the rights of donor-conceived persons to know their origins. It oversaw the preparation of the launch conference of the report of the first thematic review of to the Council of Europe Plan of Action on Strengthening Judicial Independence and Impartiality (Sofia Action Plan). It also discussed latest developments regarding the Council of Europe Convention for the Protection of the Profession of Lawyers, in particular new signatures and promotion events. Finally, it held an exchange of views with the European Law Institute (ELI) President, Teresa Rodriguez de las Heras Ballell, and Secretary General, Vanessa Wilcox.
