The Consultative Council of European Prosecutors adopts an Opinion on the role of prosecutors in relation to the rights of victims and witnesses in criminal proceedings

The CCPE recommends the implementation, in all member States, of a series of rights and protective measures for victims and witnesses in particular when vulnerables, in order for them to receive appropriate support in an Opinion adopted at its 12th plenary meeting held in Strasbourg on 23 and 24 November 2017. The Opinion recommends that at all stages of the proceedings prosecutors protect dignity, respect for private and family life, the personal safety of victims and witnesses, the right to information  and the right to legal assistance for victims. It is also recommended that Member States should have specialised prosecutors in terrorism, human trafficking, domestic violence or sexual abuse. The opinion concludes with a list of recommendations aimed at guiding prosecutor’s work with victims and witnesses.
