Romani Language – Historical Legacy in the Albanian Heritage

5 November 2021 - Celebrating the World Day of Romani Language, the European Union/Council of Europe joint programme ROMACTED2 hosted the event “Romani Language – Historical legacy in the Albanian heritage” at the “Aleksandër Xhuvani” University in Elbasan, a participating municipality of ROMACTED.

The event promoted the Albanian and Romani language studies at the university and presented the teaching material on the “Romani language in a state of bilingualism and survival” in Albanian, English and Romani. This material is in line with the Curriculum Framework for Romani (CFR), which has been developed by the Council of Europe. The CFR uses the descriptive categories and common reference levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. This publication also supports the Committee of Ministers’ Recommendation (2020)2 on the inclusion of the history of Roma and/or Travellers in school curricula and teaching materials.

High-level representation at the event was ensured in the opening remarks of Ms Jutta Gützkow, Head of Council of Europe Office in Tirana, Vice-rector of the University Ms Elvira Fetahu, and Deputy Mayor of Elbasan, Mr Vesa Lico. University students and members of the Roma community in Elbasan also attended the event.
