Supervision of execution of the Strasbourg Court’s judgments: very good results before the Committee of Ministers

[02/04/2014] The Committee of Ministers today made public the annual report for 2013 on its supervision of the execution of judgments and decisions of the European Court of Human Rights. In accordance with the European Convention on Human Rights, the Committee of Ministers is responsible for supervising the execution of the Court’s judgments by the states concerned. The statistics 2013 confirm the positive trends of 2011 and 2012, and reveal a first decrease ever in the total number of pending cases. (Read more)

Conference on “Strengthening the capacity of parliamentarians, judges and prosecutors to prevent corruption in their own ranks: emerging trends from two years of GRECO Round IV evaluations”, 10-11 April 2014, Laxenburg, Austria


[02/04/2014]  Under the auspices of the Austrian Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, this one and a half day conference will be jointly organised by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Justice, the Group of States against Corruption of the Council of Europe (GRECO), and the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA), with extra financial support from the Government of Monaco. In addition to taking stock of national experience and main findings in the prevention of corruption in respect of members of parliament, judges and prosecutors, it also will provide an opportunity to review policies, exchange information on good practices and identify future action in the light of GRECO’s Fourth Evaluation Round. Anti-torture committee calls on Croatia to reduce prison overcrowding


[18/03/2014] In a report published today on its last visit to Croatia, the Council of Europe’s anti-torture committee (CPT) calls on the authorities to improve material conditions in prisons and to reduce overcrowding, notably at the Zagreb County Prison, which was 225% over its 400 bed capacity.

Corruption of parliamentarians, judges and prosecutors : "the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia" must reinforce prevention

[17/03/2014] In a report published today on “the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia”, the Council of Europe’s Anti-Corruption Group (GRECO) considers insufficient and expresses concern on the effectiveness of the implementation and enforcement of the legal framework governing the prevention of corruption among members of Parliament, judges and prosecutors. Conference "Shaping the digital environment - ensuring our rights on the Internet"

[13/03/2014] Austria is organising this Conference on 13 and 14 March 2014 in Graz, within the framework of the Austrian chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers. The Conference will address current challenges and responses to make the internet an inclusive and people-centred space in the follow-up of the Council of Europe Internet Governance Strategy 2012-2015. It will build upon a multi-stakeholder approach, and discuss challenges and best practices in the light of recent developments in the field of Internet governance. Participants will take stock of the progress made on the Council of Europe's Internet Governance Strategy, thereby also identifying possible ways forward beyond 2015.

[07/02/2014] The open consultation, which closed on 27 January, produced over 120 contributions from a wide variety of interested parties and from across Europe. This material will feed in to work at expert level, which begins on 19-21 March. The contributions can be consulted here.
