Sweden: visit of the Advisory Committee on the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities

A delegation of the Advisory Committee on the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities will visit Stockholm and Kiruna from 05-08 March 2012  in the context of the monitoring of the implementation of this convention in Sweden.

This is the third visit of the Advisory Committee to Sweden. The Delegation will have meetings with the representatives of all relevant ministries, public officials, the Equality Ombudsman, NGOs, as well as national minority organisations.

The Delegation includes Ms Olga BUTKEVYCH, Advisory Committee member in respect of Ukraine, Mr Rainer HOFMANN, President of the Advisory Committee, and Ms Milena KLAJNER, Advisory Committee member in respect of Croatia and Ms Michle AKIP, Head of the Secretariat of the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities.

Note: Sweden submitted its third State Report under the Framework Convention in June 2011. Following its visit, the Advisory Committee will adopt its own report (called Opinion), which will be sent to the government for comments. The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe will then adopt conclusions and recommendations in respect of Sweden.
