Launch of the Advisory Committee on the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities Third Thematic Commentary

In view of the central importance of linguistic rights for the effective protection of all rights of persons belonging to national minorities, the Advisory Committee on the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities has devoted its Third Thematic Commentary to the linguistic rights of persons belonging to national minorities.

The Commentary will be launched on Monday, 15 October 2012 in Strasbourg in the presence of the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe,  representatives of the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities, the Committee of Experts on the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages, the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance, the European Roma and Travellersí Forum, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, minority representatives, as well as representatives from the Council of Europe member states.

The programme includes panel discussions on issues related to language rights and the effective participation in public life, language rights and equality, as well as language as an expression of individual and collective identity.
