Council of Europe Group of States against Corruption calls on the USA to ratify the Criminal Law Convention on Corruption, praises the overall transparency of political financing but stresses the need to enhance this transparency in respect of certain types of contributions.
[Strasbourg, 26/01/2012] – The Council of Europe’s Group of States against Corruption (GRECO) calls for the United States of America to ratify the Criminal Law Convention on Corruption and to fully incorporate it into the law. GRECO stresses that the United States is one of the very few member states which are not a party to the Convention and its Additional Protocol. Although the US legislation and practice provide for a high degree of “functional” consistency with the Convention and the enforcement regime is effective in prosecuting corruption offences, US law does not appear to meet all the requirements of the Convention, for example, as regards bribery in a foreign context and private sector bribery. Council of Europe Anti-corruption body calls on Austria to ratify the Criminal Law Convention on Corruption and to improve transparency of political funding

GRECO bids farewell to its President - Drago KOS - and elects a new President, Vice-President and Bureau
[Strasbourg, 09/12/2011]
– Drago KOS (Slovenia), GRECO’s President since 2002, left this important function on the day of election of a new President, Vice-President and Bureau at GRECO’s 53rd plenary meeting (5-9 December). Mr Kos’ outstanding services to the Council of Europe and GRECO were honoured with the Organisation’s Pro Merito Medal presented to him by Deputy Secretary General Maud DE BOER-BUQUICCHIO. (more...)

Council of Europe Group of States against Corruption calls for rules on political funding and increased effectiveness of certain anti-corruption provisions in Switzerland
[Strasbourg, 02/12/2011] –  The Council of Europe’s Group of States against Corruption – GRECO) today called for Switzerland to increase the effectiveness of criminal law particularly concerning bribery of foreign public officials and in the private sector, and to adopt legislation on political funding. Group of States against Corruption publishes report on Bosnia and Herzegovina

[Strasbourg, 17/08/2011]
– Publishing its Third Round Evaluation Report, the Council of Europe’s Group of States against Corruption (GRECO) has called on Bosnia and Herzegovina to take determined steps to enforce criminal legislation and become more efficient in convicting corruption offenders. GRECO also calls for more transparency and accountability in the funding of political parties and election campaigns. (more...)

Group of States against Corruption publishes report on Georgia

[Strasbourg, 01/07/2011] – The Council of Europe’s Group of States against Corruption (GRECO) today published its Third Round Evaluation Report on Georgia, in which it finds significant progress in legislation on transparency of political funding, but also stresses the need for a mechanism to supervise it is effectively applied.
The report focuses on two distinct themes: criminalisation of corruption and transparency of party funding. (more...)
