Our principles and values
Equal opportunities and non-discrimination
The principles of non-discrimination and equal treatment are among our core values at the Council of Europe. As a pan-European organisation, we work for and represent all citizens in greater Europe. We therefore recognise the importance of attracting, developing and retaining a body of staff which reflects the diversity of European societies today. We are convinced that diversity is a strength in the workplace and that harnessing this diversity will create a productive environment in which everyone feels valued, where their talents are fully utilised, and where organisational goals are met.
We therefore welcome applications from all suitably-qualified candidates, irrespective of gender, disability, marital or parental status, racial, ethnic or social origin, colour, religion, belief, or sexual orientation. In addition, during the various stages of recruitment, specific measures can be taken to ensure equal opportunities for candidates with disabilities or special needs.
We also aim to achieve a fair representation of our member states amongst staff.
Under our equal opportunities policy, the Council of Europe is aiming to achieve parity in the number of women and men in each category and grade.
