"The Directorate of Human Rights includes the Department for the Execution of the Judgments of the European Court of Human Rights (DEJ), the Secretariat of the Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT), the Department for Human Rights, Justice and Legal Co-operation Standard-Setting Activities and the Department for the Implementation of Human Rights, Justice and Legal Co-operation Standards, as well as the coordinator for the abolition of the death penalty.

The Directorate works to promote, protect and develop human rights as guaranteed in particular by the European Convention on Human Rights and other related instruments, to develop justice and legal cooperation norms and activities, and to assist the Council of Europe's member States to comply with these standards. For this, the Directorate puts into practice the Council of Europe's unique strategic triangle of standard-setting, monitoring and co-operation."
