On 14 September 2016, the seminar Dialogue among legal professionals: the relevance of admissibility criteria in applications submitted to the European Court of Human Rights to national procedures was organised in Podgorica in the framework of the HELP in the Western Balkans and Turkey project by the Montenegrin Bar Association in co-operation with the Law Faculty. Participants were 60 including lawyers, representatives from the Judiciary, the Law Faculty and the Ombudsman. The event took place at the premises of the Law Faculty.
After a general and practical introduction to the admissibility criteria, a lively and interactive discussion started among the legal professionals willing to acquire more practical knowledge on how to lodge an application before the Strasbourg Court. Practical issues were tackled like the effectiveness of the Constitutional complaint, the need for harmonisation of national practices and the professional responsibility lying with lawyers to refuse the clients’ request to bring cases before the Strasbourg Court.
The HELP course on Introduction to the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) and the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) was launched in Montenegrin as a self-learning material available in the HELP e-learning platform for legal professionals and law students.
