First HEY training of tutors held at MedUni

The first Training of Tutors (ToT) for the Human Rights Education for Youth (HEY) Programme took place from 26 to 30 June in Hammamet, Tunisia, during the 8th Mediterranean University on Youth and Global Citizenship (MedUni).

Nine participants from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Jordan, Malawi, Montenegro, Morocco, Romania and Rwanda attended this first training session, after successfully completing the tutored HEY course on “Media and Information Literacy”. The aim of this ToT was to strengthen participants’ capacities to implement HEY courses in their own countries, communities or regions, as HEY-certified tutors.

The training covered the pedagogical aspects of the tutor’s role, such as working with young people in an intercultural context, as well as the human rights-based approach of HEY. It also covered the technical aspects of adapting and delivering a tutored course on the HEY platform. The training provided an opportunity to explore the Council of Europe’s legal instruments as well as other international legal frameworks more in depth. The sessions were integrated into the MedUni schedule, which also included joint events with the participants from all activities taking place.

After completing a final assignment, which allows participants to put their acquired knowledge and skills into practice, they will be certified as HEY tutors.

The next ToT is scheduled for September as part of the University on Youth and Development. Participants who successfully complete HEY courses by the end of July 2025 are encouraged to apply.
