The online version of the “Pre-Trial Assessment Tool”, which elaborates in detail the methodology for reviewing pre-trial detention practice within a given country, is now available.
The document offers a step by step methodology on the use of statistical and thematic analysis to assess the application of pre-trial detention and uncover problems connected to its use, which in turn will help to identify the best solutions. The development of the tool is the first-of-its-kind attempt to provide a systematic approach to collection and analysis of available data to achieve an objective picture of the use of pre-trial detention.
It is produced by the Human Rights National Implementation Division of the Directorate General of Human Rights and Rule of Law under the Partnership for Good Governance co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe.
