The Governmental Committee holds its 148th meeting

The Governmental Committee of the European Social Charter and the European Code of Social Security ("Governmental Committee") is holding its 148th meeting from 13 to 16 May 2024.

Among other issues, the Governmental Committee will continue its discussion about the outcomes of the recent meeting of the Working Group on the Reform of the Working Methods and of the impact of CM decisions on the intermediate and long-term tasks of the GC.

The Governmental Committee will also discuss the follow-up to conclusions 2022 of the European Committee of Social Rights with regard to the thematic group on “Labour rights” and examine possible recommendations under the right to bargain collectively (Article 6) and right of workers' representatives to protection in the undertaking and facilities to be accorded to them (Article 28). The Committee will also examine national situations with regard to Conclusions 2023 related to the thematic group 4 on "children, families and migrants" with regard to: right of children and young persons to protection (Article 7); right of employed women to protection of maternity (Article 8); right of the family to social, legal and economic protection (Article 16); right of children and young persons to social, legal and economic protection (Article 17); right of migrant workers and their families to protection and assistance (Article 19); right of workers with family responsibilities to equal opportunity and treatment (Article 27); right to housing (Article 31).

The Committee held an exchange of views with the President of the ECSR, Aoife Nolan on the latest developments and work of ECSR.

Another exchange of view with Mr. Joan Forner, the Chair of the GR-SOC, Permanent Representative of Andorra, focused on possible development of soft law instruments aimed at fostering a unified approach to social rights among Member States, as well as any role the GC could play in promoting social cohesion.
