On 15 May 2026, on the occasion of the 135th Session of the Committee of Ministers in Chişinău, the Republic of Moldova, in the presence of the Secretary General, ratified the Amending Protocol to the Convention for the Protection of Individuals with regard to the Processing of Personal Data (CETS No. 223).
Republic of Moldova, who has been Party to Convention 108 since 2008, thus becomes the 34th State Party to join the modernised Convention 108 (Convention 108+).
With the Republic of Moldova joining Convention 108+, this landmark instrument comes closer to its entry into force. As a reminder, the minimum threshold for entry into force is 38 ratifications.
The Republic of Moldova’s commitment demonstrates the importance of this unique instrument, which remains the only global, legally binding treaty protecting privacy and personal data in an ever-expanding digital era.
