3rd Thessaloniki Forum on Human Rights

The General Rapporteur of the European Committee of Social Rights, Giuseppe Palmisano, participated in the 3rd Thessaloniki Forum on Human Rights, which was held in a hybrid format on 25 and 26 November 2021 in Thessaloniki, Greece.

The main topic of the Forum was related to the rights of people with disabilities in legal and social debate. Giuseppe Palmisano presented indeed the achievements through the application of the European Social Charter by the European Committee of Social Rights with regard to the social rights of people with disabilities.

The Thessaloniki Forum is organised by the Center for European Legal Culture (CELC), which was established by the Senate of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2018. The aim of the CELC is to promote, through research projects and interventions in the public space, the common values with legal resonance which are fundamental for Europe and the participation of citizens in the democratic life of the Union. Each year, the Human Rights Forum brings together representatives of the academia, public authorities and civil society around a different theme.

In each Forum, the European Social Charter and the achievements of the European Committee of Social Rights are subject of reports and debates. The rapporteur of the 1st Forum (2019), dedicated to children’s rights and in particular to children and adolescents at risk, was Christos Giakoumopoulos, Director General of the Rule of Law and Human Rights of the Council of Europe. The rapporteur of the 2nd Forum (2020) devoted to gender inequalities and women's rights, was professor Petros Stangos, current president of the CELC and former Vice-President of the European Committee of Social Rights.
