The European Institute of Cultural Routes (EICR) is honoured to announce the election of Ambassador André BIEVER as its new President. Ambassador BIEVER is an experienced diplomat who has represented Luxembourg in various capacities, including roles in Switzerland, India, Belgium, and Nicaragua. He currently serves as the Director for Consular Affairs and International Cultural Relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Luxembourg.
The election took place during the EICR Board of Directors meeting held on 14 October in Luxembourg. The Board, along with the entire EICR team, extends its heartfelt congratulations to Ambassador BIEVER and looks forward to a fruitful collaboration in the future.
During the meeting, Board members engaged in discussions on several key topics, including the presentation of the EICR’s planned activities for 2024. Particular attention was given to the Annual Advisory Forum, which was recently held in Visegrád, Hungary, as well as the Institute's involvement in the European Heritage Days. Additionally, the Board assessed the current status of the Certification Cycle for 2024-2025, which encompasses eight candidate routes and eight Cultural Routes undergoing regular evaluation, along with two Routes subject to exceptional evaluation. The agenda also included preparations for upcoming events, such as the 1st International Conference on Universities and Cultural Routes, scheduled for 13-14 November in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, and the Luxembourg Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, set to take place from 15 November 2024 to 15 May 2025.
The European Institute of Cultural Routes (EICR) serves as the technical agency for the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe Programme, established in 1998 through a political agreement between the Council of Europe and the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg (Ministry of Culture). The EICR provides support to the EPA on Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe during the evaluation cycles for certified Cultural Routes and candidate networks seeking the "Cultural Route of the Council of Europe" certification.
